We are a group of scientists and engineers working at the intersection of chemical engineering, materials science, and the physical sciences. Our goal is to advance fundamental understanding of molecular processes related to charge transport and reactions at electrochemical interfaces to inform the development of effective solutions to society’s pressing environmental and energy challenges. We recognize that individual lab members each bring a unique perspective to this work and strive to build a deeply collaborative and inclusive culture to effectively combine these perspectives, yielding creative results.
Graduate students interested in joining the group should apply to the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Northwestern University. Questions about our research or anything specific to the group are welcome. Please direct any general questions you have to the Graduate Program Assistant (chbeadmissions@northwestern.edu). Graduate students admitted to other departments at Northwestern are also welcome to get in touch with Jeff to setup a meeting to discuss research interests and potential projects.
Postdoctoral Researchers interested in electrochemistry, energy storage, materials design, and laboratory automation are encouraged to apply directly to Jeff. Please send a brief, 1 paragraph, summary of your past and current research, a description of what you would like to work on during your time in the group, and your CV to jlopez@northwestern.edu. Please include [Postdoc_Applicant] in the subject line of your e-mail. Applicants pursuing fellowship funding for their postdoctoral work are strongly encouraged to reach out regardless of posted positions.
Undergraduate research is a fantastic means to explore opportunities in chemical engineering outside of the classroom and build useful skills for future careers in any area. Interested students should email a resume to Jeff and consult Northwestern Office of Undergraduate Research page for introductory questions and funding opportunities. Research can be performed as a work-study job and work-study eligible students are encouraged to reach out for more information about these opportunities.
Applicants at all levels with backgrounds in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, and related subjects are all encouraged to apply.
